The Taiwan-based electric vehicle giant, Gogoro, is all set to introduce its new electric scooter in India on December 12, 2023. This upcoming launch marks Gogoro’s debut in the Indian market, bringing forth the Gogoro Crossover, a robust and durable electric scooter designed to tackle challenging terrains with ease.
The Gogoro Crossover is being touted as a “two-wheeled SUV” by the company, emphasizing its focus on utility and adaptability. Sporting 12-inch wheels paired with Maxxis dual-purpose tires, this model comes equipped with telescopic front forks, fork gaiters, and enhanced black panels across its body. Its wheelbase measures a decent 1,400 mm and features a modified steel tubular frame for added stability. Braking capabilities come from 220 mm front and 180 mm rear discs, ensuring reliable stopping power.
With a ground clearance of 142 mm, the Gogoro Crossover falls slightly below some of its counterparts like the Ather 450X and the TVS iQube. However, Gogoro might consider adjusting this to better suit Indian road conditions. Additionally, Gogoro has unveiled various storage accessories to enhance the scooter’s practicality.
A standout feature is the split seats that can fold to serve as a backrest for the rider, creating extra cargo space. Internationally, it is powered by a 7 kW electric motor generating 26.6 Nm of peak torque, accompanied by two swappable battery packs totaling around 1.6 kWh, offering a range of 100 km. For the India-specific model, Gogoro may introduce a slightly toned-down version in terms of performance, possibly featuring a smaller and more affordable motor to manage costs effectively.
Gogoro plans to introduce both B2C (business-to-consumer) and B2B (business-to-business) versions in the Indian market, with a focus on the latter initially. The electric scooter will be manufactured at Gogoro’s plant in Maharashtra and targets last-mile delivery service providers. The company has already formed partnerships with key players such as Swiggy, Zomato, and Zypp Electric. Moreover, Gogoro has commenced the setup of swappable battery stations, with the first one established in Gurugram earlier this year. Leveraging local manufacturing should provide Gogoro with a significant cost advantage, enabling it to compete effectively in the entry-level electric scooter segment.
