Kia EV9: Coming Soon to the US Market with Four Trim Options

Kia has shared more info about the upcoming EV9 model.

The Kia EV9 is set to hit the US market in a few months, and the South Korean brand is revealing some additional insights.

Already a hit in South Korea with over 1,000 monthly sales in June and July, the all-electric SUV with three rows is making its way to the US in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Kia will soon introduce the EV9 reservation program, though pricing and specifics are still pending.

What we do know is that the 2024 Kia EV9 will debut with four trim choices (Light, Wind, Land, and GT-Line), offering two battery sizes (76.1 or 99.8 kilowatt-hours), and the option of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. There’s even a sporty EV9 GT trim planned for 2025.

The 76.1 kWh battery model will feature a single-motor, rear-wheel drive setup. Meanwhile, the 99.8 kWh version can be had with either rear-wheel drive or dual-motor, all-wheel drive.

Key Specs of the 2024 Kia EV9:

  • Trim Levels: Light, Wind, Land, and GT-Line
  • Batteries (Kia’s fourth-gen battery, 800V): 76.1 kWh or 99.8 kWh
  • Powertrain options:
    • RWD (76.1 kWh): 160 kW (215 hp)
    • RWD (99.8 kWh): 150 kW (201 hp)
    • AWD (99.8 kWh): 283 kW (379 hp) with up to 516 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Wheels: Standard 19-inch wheels (20-inch optional) for base trims, standard 20-inch wheels for upper trims, and 21-inch for GT-Line
  • Platform: E-GMP

The 99.8 kWh battery RWD version of the Kia EV9 is anticipated to have the longest range among the setups – potentially up to 300 miles, according to the manufacturer’s estimates (EPA figures are forthcoming), thanks in part to its 0.28 drag coefficient.

On the flip side, the dual-motor versions will be the quickest. Kia suggests a sub-five-second 0-60 mph time (in Boost mode). Testing with a pre-production vehicle achieved 4.5 seconds for 0-60 mph with a 1-foot rollout in AMCI-certified testing.

Importantly, the AWD version can tow up to 5,000 lbs., and the ground clearance reaches up to 7.8 inches.

Thanks to the E-GMP battery technology, fast charging is a strong suit of the Kia EV9. The company claims that charging from 10% to 80% state-of-charge should take around 25 minutes, using up to 236 kW (tested on an Electrify America 350 kW, 800V charger). Factors such as charger compatibility may impact this time.

In terms of AC charging, the SUV will come with an 11-kilowatt onboard charger.

A notable highlight for the US launch of the Kia EV9 is the local assembly planned for West Point, Georgia, starting in 2024.
