Orxa Mantis: The Stylish Electric Motorcycle with Impressive Range

The Orxa Mantis, the latest electric motorcycle from Indian startup Orxa Energies, brings a blend of sportiness and technological innovation to the commuter scene.

Initially showcased in concept form in 2019, the Mantis had aimed for a mid-2020 market release but faced delays due to global disruptions. However, with the world getting back on track, Orxa Energies has now unveiled the much-anticipated Mantis, showcasing impressive specs and features. Join us as we delve into what this electric motorcycle has to offer for riders.

At its core, the Orxa Mantis boasts a liquid-cooled electric motor generating 20.5 kilowatts, equivalent to about 27 horsepower in traditional combustion engine terms. With a torque of 93 Nm (69 pound-feet), the bike reaches a top speed of 135 kilometers per hour (83 miles per hour) and accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in 8.9 seconds. Powered by an 8.9 kilowatt-hour battery, it promises a remarkable range of up to 221 kilometers (137 miles) on a single charge.

Charging the Mantis is convenient, taking just two-and-a-half hours with the “Blitz” fast charger or five hours with the standard 1.3-kilowatt charger. Beyond driving the motor, the battery manages the bike’s electronic functionalities. The Mantis sports a five-inch, full-color TFT display, enabling smartphone pairing and navigation. Its full-LED lighting system enhances visibility and aesthetics with a distinctive twin-projector LED setup. Technological features also include regenerative braking and ABS.

Beyond its advanced electronics, Orxa Energies highlights the Mantis’ frame crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum to minimize weight. Suspension comprises 41-millimeter telescopic forks at the front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. The bike stops efficiently with 320-millimeter front and 230-millimeter rear disc brakes. Impressively, the Mantis weighs a mere 182 kilograms (about 401 pounds), akin to a Honda CB500F, showcasing Orxa’s success in keeping weight minimal.

As for pricing, the Orxa Mantis starts at Rs 360,000, approximately $4,322 USD, which includes the 1.3-kilowatt charger, while the Blitz charger is an optional accessory. Orxa Energies sweetens the deal with a three-year, 30,000-kilometer (18,750-mile) warranty, offering peace of mind to buyers. The first batch of Mantis electric motorcycles is set to hit the market in April 2024, meeting the anticipation of eager customers.
