In an Instagram story, the British-Indian influencer clarified that she had no involvement in the creation of the deepfake video and strongly condemned its circulation. Patel emphasized the need for internet users to exercise caution and fact-check the content they encounter online. She urged everyone to be vigilant, highlighting that not everything on the internet can be trusted.
Rashmika Mandanna, the victim of the deepfake video, shared her sentiments about the incident, describing it as “extremely scary.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mandanna expressed her dismay and concern about the misuse of technology. She emphasized the vulnerability of individuals, especially women, in the face of such malicious activities. Mandanna called for urgent community action to address this issue and protect potential victims, especially young individuals who might find it challenging to cope with such situations.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar underscored the importance of social media platforms fulfilling their legal obligations to counter misinformation. He cited the IT rules implemented in April 2023, which mandate platforms to promptly remove false information reported by users or the government. Chandrasekhar stressed the severity of deepfake technology as a form of misinformation and called on platforms to take immediate action to prevent its proliferation. He warned that platforms failing to comply with these regulations could face legal consequences under the Indian Penal Code.
