Following the successful debut of the iPhone 15 series in 2023, Apple, the tech giant based in Cupertino, has reportedly commenced development on new iPhone models. These upcoming models are speculated to introduce various fresh features and significant enhancements, aiming for a release in September 2024.
As per a report by MacRumors, the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro is expected to sport a larger display, estimated to be around 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max might take it further with a display of about 6.9 inches.
There’s talk of a potential design shift for the standard iPhone 16 models, possibly reverting to the vertical camera layout reminiscent of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, abandoning the diagonal layout from the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. MacRumors speculates that this change could facilitate spatial video recording for Apple Vision Pro, although Apple’s exact motive remains unclear.
Moreover, all iPhone 16 models might feature a new physical “Capture Button,” the purpose of which remains a mystery for now. The iPhone 16 Pro variants are also anticipated to showcase an upgraded 48MP Ultra Wide camera, promising higher-resolution images with enhanced detail in 0.5X mode.
According to reports, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could pioneer a super telephoto periscope camera, providing a substantial boost in optical zoom capabilities. Both iPhone 16 Pro models are projected to offer 5x optical zoom, a feature presently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
In the year 2024, the standard iPhone 16 models might incorporate an extension of the Action Button, a feature currently available solely on the iPhone 15 Pro models. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are likely to integrate an A17 chip, although rumors suggest it might differ from the A17 Pro chip utilized in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
Furthermore, iOS 18 is anticipated to introduce new Siri functionalities powered by extensive language models. However, on-device AI features may remain exclusive to the iPhone 16 models, shaping a part of the offerings expected in this forthcoming series.
