The video, shared by an Instagram user named Sona Agarwal, portrayed a deepfake of Tata providing investment guidance. The post claimed to offer a risk-free opportunity to amplify investments.
The deceptive Instagram post showcased a deepfake interview with Ratan Tata, where he falsely referred to Agarwal as his manager. The caption misleadingly urged users to take advantage of a supposed recommendation from Tata to enhance their investments without risk. It prompted viewers to visit a specific channel for further details.
The proliferation of deepfake videos involving prominent personalities on social media has caused widespread shock, concern, and alarm among users. Not long ago, actress Priyanka Chopra became a target, featured in a video endorsing a brand and disclosing her annual income, despite the content being manipulated.
While Priyanka’s facial appearance remains unaltered in these controversial videos, her voice and dialogue were substituted with a fabricated advertisement.
Another instance involved actress Alia Bhatt in a fake video that was later debunked. The viral deepfake depicted Alia’s face superimposed onto another person sitting on a bed. The video showcased a girl wearing a blue floral outfit, with Alia’s face digitally imposed, gesturing towards the camera.
Amid these incidents, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently held meetings with social media platforms to assess their efforts in countering misinformation and deepfakes. He emphasized issuing advisories within the next two days to ensure complete compliance by these platforms.
