Mahindra & Mahindra recently made a move to expand its Thar lineup in India by applying for trademarks on seven potential names, one of which could be “Thar Armada.” The company is gearing up for the launch of the Thar 5-door variant around mid-2024, aiming to introduce a more practical version of the rugged Thar.
The trademarked names – Thar Armada, Cult, Rex, Savannah, Roxx, Gladius, and Centurion – signify the diverse options Mahindra is considering for the 5-door Thar. Enthusiasts and experts are buzzing with curiosity, speculating on the unique features that might align with these names.
Apart from just a new name, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door promises several differences from its 3-door counterpart. Spy shots have revealed exterior changes like a redesigned grille, upgraded LED headlights, fresh alloy wheels, revised bumper design, a sunroof, and, notably, the addition of two extra doors.
Inside, the long-wheelbase Thar is expected to boast enhanced features. Anticipated upgrades include a larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, advanced connectivity, front armrest, revamped steering wheel, ceiling-mounted speakers, and more. However, the inclusion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology might impact the final pricing.
Under the hood, Mahindra will offer the Thar 5-door with the choice of a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine or a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine. Buyers can opt for a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic, with both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options. Confirmation is pending on whether the smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine in a 4×2 setup, akin to the 3-door Thar, will be available.
Excitement mounts for the official debut of the Mahindra Thar 5-door next year, and it’s expected that the automaker will choose a rugged and fitting name. Moreover, there’s speculation that M&M might introduce multiple versions of the SUV, possibly offering more than one of these trademarked names in the market.
