Xiaomi first electric car to be launched in extended-range versions

In a groundbreaking development, Xiaomi, the tech giant, is on the brink of introducing its inaugural Electric Vehicle (EV) that encompasses both battery-electric and extended-range powertrains. This revelation, sourced from the reputable Beijing-based outlet Pandaily, indicates Xiaomi’s foray into the realm of electric mobility, diversifying its offerings for discerning consumers.

The buzz surrounding Xiaomi’s venture escalated with reports of the company actively enlisting skilled engineers in China. Their mission? To engineer cutting-edge extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) range extenders. These extenders, pivotal components in the upcoming EVs, harness a 400V voltage platform coupled with the innovative BYD Blade Battery for the entry-level model. Meanwhile, the high-end variant boasts an 800V voltage platform and the advanced CATL Qilin Battery, boasting a substantial 101kWh battery pack capacity.

Notably, the extended-range iteration is poised to incorporate a potent 1.5L or 1.5T range extender alongside a capacious battery. For the uninitiated, an EV range extender, an ingenious mechanism, employs a gasoline engine to bolster the battery electric vehicle’s range. This strategic choice augments the car’s reach, catering to a broader spectrum of potential buyers.

Xiaomi’s inaugural car is anticipated to showcase a coupĂ© design, meticulously tailored to captivate the younger demographic. Envision a vehicle with a sleek, low-slung profile, characterized by an elongated front fascia and a swiftly tapering rear end, culminating in an inherently sporty aesthetic.

This much-anticipated automobile recently surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG certification platform, unveiling a trove of remarkable features. Among these are the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, Bluetooth 5.2 for seamless connectivity, USB Media functionalities, and comprehensive Apple CarPlay support. These cutting-edge additions underscore Xiaomi’s commitment to delivering a technologically advanced driving experience, integrating innovation into every aspect of the vehicle’s functionality.

Xiaomi’s strides in the automobile industry have been nothing short of remarkable. Having announced its entry into this competitive arena, the company is now hurtling towards the production phase. Anticipated to commence in 2024, the vehicle has already entered the trial production stage, with an impressive fleet of approximately 50 prototype cars rolling off the assembly line each week. Xiaomi’s meticulous approach towards innovation and quality assurance is poised to redefine the landscape of electric vehicles, promising consumers a fusion of unparalleled performance and aesthetic allure.
