Nio Unveils ET9 Electric Sedan to Rival Luxury Cars like Mercedes Maybach and Porsche Panamera

China’s Nio recently introduced its latest top-tier electric car, the ET9, during its annual customer event. Branded as the Nio ET9, this all-electric executive sedan aims to compete with prestigious models such as the Mercedes Maybach S-Class and Porsche Panamera. According to reports from Reuters, the ET9 is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025 with a price tag of $112,000, positioning it as a more expensive option compared to Tesla’s Model S electric sedan.

The Nio ET9 comes equipped with the company’s in-house developed five-nanometer automotive-grade microchip and large cylindrical battery cells. Notably, it features a 900-volt ultra-fast charging platform capable of providing a 255-kilometer range in just five minutes of charging time.

CEO William Li emphasized that the ET9 embodies an impressive level of innovation and technological advancement, incorporating over 100 Nio full-stack technologies. As for its design, the ET9 showcases a distinctive appearance described by Nio as a “landjet silhouette,” projecting confidence and poise. Its sleek exterior includes a luxurious glass roof, enhancing the spaciousness of the cabin. The car’s seats boast 24 patented technologies, while a panel known as the Sky Bridge runs across the roof, dividing it from front to rear.

Inside the ET9, the cabin boasts a plethora of digital interfaces. A sizable central touchscreen serves as the primary infotainment system, complemented by a fully digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers enjoy individual large tab-like touchscreen infotainment systems mounted on the back of the front seat headrests. Nio has replaced conventional buttons with numerous touchscreen panels throughout the cabin for both front and rear occupants, elevating the EV’s premium feel.

Under the hood, the Nio ET9 features a 340 kW permanent magnet motor with SiC positioned at the rear axle and a 180 kW induction motor at the front axle. Together, these motors generate a total power output of 698 bhp. The car also boasts a smart restraint system capable of detecting various collision types and their severity, as well as the occupants’ body figures. This system is paired with automatic airbag inflation and seatbelt tension adjustment for enhanced safety.
