The MG Comet EV recently launched in India shares quite a few components with the Wuling BinguoEV, which made its debut in Indonesia not long ago.
Among the promising electric cars eyeing the Indian market from global arenas, the BYD Seagull stands out. In China, the Seagull hit the market at a price of CNY 79K (around Rs. 9.4 lakh), directly competing with the recently introduced Wuling BinguoEV (priced at CNY 67K in China), which just had its launch in Indonesia. Whenever Wuling introduces a product in Indonesia, it often hints at a potential launch in India under the MG brand. Let’s delve deeper into this.
Attractive Pricing of Wuling BinguoEV
India’s shift toward electric vehicles is gaining momentum. Domestic brands like Tata and Mahindra are exploring various opportunities in this segment. Additionally, international brands like Hyundai, Kia, BYD, and MG are set to redefine boundaries with new, more affordable electric vehicles.
Under SAIC-GM-Wuling, both BYD and MG Motor have a strong chance of making a significant impact on India’s electric vehicle landscape. Currently, MG holds the title for India’s most reasonably priced mainstream electric car, following the recent launch of the 3-door Comet EV. Should the company consider introducing the BinguoEV to India, it could become a formidable competitor against models like the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and Tigor EV.
In a way, it could also challenge the Nexon EV and XUV400. In Indonesia, Wuling has priced the BinguoEV between IDR 358 Million (Rs. 19 lakh) and IDR 408 Million (Rs. 21.9 lakh). To clarify, Wuling Bingo and Wuling BinguoEV are not two different vehicles; they are essentially the same. The company has rolled it out as BinguoEV in Indonesia, likely due to trademark issues with the Bingo name.
The car measures 3,950 mm in length, 1,708 mm in width, 1,580 mm in height, and boasts a wheelbase of 2,560 mm. Comparatively, the Wuling BinguoEV is larger than the BYD Seagull. For Indonesia, there are two battery pack options available, both compatible with DC charging: a 31.9 kWh battery with a 41 bhp motor offering a claimed range of 333 km, and a 37.9 kWh battery with a 68 bhp motor providing a claimed range of 410 km.
Distinctive Design Features
In Indonesia, buyers can choose from three pastel colors – Mousse Green, Galaxy Blue, and Milk Tea. Design-wise, the BinguoEV has an appealing and cute design, showcasing X-shaped LED DRL signature lights in its headlights and taillights, sleek projector headlights, minimal sheet metal detailing, 15-inch wheel covers designed like water splashes, and an overall classy and adorable appearance.
The interior shares several similarities with the MG Comet EV launched in India. Notably, it features dual 10-inch horizontal displays housed together, a steering wheel with pod controls, and a gear-selecting dial – all identical to the Comet EV. Even the key fob design is the same.
Inside the Wuling BinguoEV, a sophisticated layout awaits, featuring extensive soft-touch plastics. This includes a leatherette-clad dashboard with stitching and large doorpads equipped with cladding and stitching. The boot space stands at 310L, expandable to 790L with the second row folded. While MG Motor India hasn’t officially confirmed the arrival of the Wuling BinguoEV to our shores, it could undoubtedly bolster MG’s position in the Indian EV market.
